Saariselkä, Lapland
Inari and Saariselkä have a rich history. There has been people on the shores of lake Inari and Ivalo river since the last Ice age. Inari is the heartland for the Sámi people and culture. Siida, the museum in Inari Village, is a treasure-trove for anything Sámi related and also one of the best Nature museums in Finland. The area is also well known for its rich gold deposits and veins and there are still prospectors coming to pan gold each year. We even have the national championship competition for it on our area in Tankavaara. The site also has the only gold museum in Finland.
